This afternoon, Barrels of Fun, maker of the Labyrinth pinball machine, shared a company update on social media.
Through December 16th, 2024 it has produced 750 of a possible 1,100 Labyrinth pinball machines, with production continuing through year-end. According to the production milestones that Barrels of Fun shared in its post (see below), it appears to be manufacturing an average of a around 60 units per month, give or take.
While Barrels stated that it is planning 3-5 years ahead in terms of securing IP for games and its facilities, we did not receive word on when we might see game number two from them. So, it's time to play with some numbers lol.
IF Barrels of Fun they sold all 1,100 Labyrinths, at a rate of 60 games per month, it would take them 5.833 months to finish the remaining production of all 1,100 machines from the December 16th date that they gave us the last data for. So a full production run of Labyrinth would take until around the end of June.
Having said that, I personally do not think that Labyrinth will sell out by then. If they made all 1,100 units, they'd probably eventually sell all of them, but I know that some distributors have a few unsold games in inventory right now. So let's say that Barrels sells 1,000 Labyrinths, it would take them around 4 months to build that many machines.
It's looking more and more like a Spring reveal for game #2 to me. Will it be ready to show off at the Texas Pinball Festival, which takes place from March 21 - 23 this year? A reveal around then makes a lot of sense. This is sort of an exercise of false precision here, but that's my guess based on nothing more than math on my part Barrels Game #2 at TPF 2025.
I have heard that the reveal might be as early as February so keep your eyes peeled because February and March will be here before we know it. Super exciting!
I mentioned last week that someone told me the next game would be based upon Dune, but I have only heard that one place and I have absolutely no idea if that is correct.
"As we enter 2025, it’s time to Roll Out the Barrel and give you all an update! As of December 16, 2024, we had built over 750 games, and made even more in the last weeks of the year.
For those of you that have been tracking, here’s how production looked throughout the year:
-Shipped our first 100 games by February 21, 2024
-Shipped 270 games by June 14, 2024
-Shipped 400 games by August 16, 2024
-Shipped 500 by September 24, 2024
-Shipped 559 games by our first anniversary on October 13, 2024
But it’s not all about the production numbers! Some other big milestones of 2024 for us were:
-We’ve grown from a team of just two people to over 25 employees, not including contractors
-Won People’s Choice for Modern Pinball at MGC
-Won Best in Show for Modern Pinball at Brisbane Masters (BPAC) 2024
-Delivered a game to Henson Studios in Los Angeles
-Became the main sponsor for the return of Pinburgh in July 2024
-Saw Karl from IE Pinball defeat Jareth in August 2024
-Hired industry veteran Butch Peel to orchestrate our first manual
-Attended numerous events and expos throughout the year, meeting so many of you in person
And what’s next? We are currently planning 3–5 years ahead in facilities and intellectual property, with a vision that extends into the next decade. The planning process is dynamic and it hopefully allows us to remain agile in the short term while staying aligned with our long-term goals.
In 10 years, we envision Barrels of Fun to be a company synonymous with creating interactive worlds under glass, known for unique features and iconic themes. We aim to lead the industry in innovation while fostering a strong community and maintaining our unwavering commitment to quality, creativity, and excellence.
We don’t want to be the biggest, we just want to do the best job that can be done for our customers.
Here’s to another great year of pinball."
