September 12th, 2015 is the date the Knapp Arcade Facebook page was born. Originally coined, the Knapp Arcade Charity Dart Tournament, my sons and I created the account to promote and track a charity dart tournament that we held in our home arcade with our new Arachnid Galaxy 2.5 dart board to benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
The event was a great success. We had a lot of fun and raised a decent amount of money for charity. The Facebook page sat dormant for a few months after that, until some people on one of the arcade collectors Facebook pages started giving me a hard time for helping others get good deals on arcade games through Craigslist because they wanted them all for themselves. I said forget this, I'm going to use the Dart page to say whatever I want...and Knapp Arcade was born.
Fast forward to today and we have a lot of friends who gather here to talk about arcade and pinball machines. So much so that I have flatteringly been asked if we have t-shirts. We didn't...until now. This morning I received the first rough draft of the new Knapp Arcade logo. Rather than selling shirts through one of the traditional arcade shirts sites that I suspect take a big chunk of the proceeds, I am going to have a friend in the commercial printing industry print up t-shirts and maybe some other merchandise using the logo, use the e-commerce capabilities that I built into the new KnappArcade.org website and fulfil the orders on my own with my family. Doing so will enable me to donate most of the profits from the shirts to St. Jude's.
In an effort to be as transparent as possible, I have created a fundraiser page with St. Jude's to show how much we raise. The link to that page is below. If anyone wants to donate to it now before the shirts are ready or just doesn't want a shirt, the site is Live. Please don't feel obligated to pay anything or to wait until the shirts are available, but I truly believe this is one of the most worthy causes out there.
