Texas Pinball Festival Update: Jersey Jack Confirms Harry Potter; Barrels of Fun Giveaway & More

Writer: JasonJason

OK, I’m back home from my road trip to Providence to watch my lifelong favorite college basketball team, St John’s, win their first NCAA Tournament game in over 20 years.

I posted a couple of articles on the trip, but I won’t be typing them on my phone while riding in the car lol.

I have a brief update on this weekend’s Texas Pinball Festival for everyone, in bullet point format:

  • During the company’s Friday seminar, Jack Guarnieri officially confirmed verbally for the first time what we all have known for a while, that Jersey Jack Pinball’s next game is based on Harry Potter. Specifically he said:

“The next Jersey Jack game is Harry Potter. We know that. I would. Or spend dime out of your pocket until you see the game. I wouldn’t spend anything. Nothing. And if I’m wrong, when you see the game you let me know. It’s gonna be spectacular. Of course it’s gonna be, Jersey Jack said that. But it took me 10 years to get the license. Only 10 years and X millions of dollars. We have all the movies. We have all the assets. I can’t wait to see the Internet blow up. If you think Wizard of Oz was something, you’re gonna love the game.”

Jack went on to add that JJP has three pinball machines actively in development right now and that they have the licenses locked up for the next three games after that.

Jack was asked if JJP will ever let Steve Ritchie make a pinball machine based on the movie Top Gun. His answer was “possibly” but to me it did not sound as though they currently have the licenses locked. If that’s right, it means that it wouldn’t be one of the next six games.

  • Barrels of Fun announced that it is providing customers who who own its Labyrinth pinball machine a free entry into a Project Pinball charity auction for its next game.

Barrels is in the process of expanding its factory from 20,000 to 33,000 square feet.

They built and delivered over 830 Labyrinths in 14 months.

Here’s a picture of the Barrels of Fun TPF booth

On Pinside Barrels showed off a picture of the underside of the playfield of its next game. Word is that it will be out sometime before the end of May.

  • Multimorphic brought 3 of its brand new game Portal and 8 other P3 machines to TPF

  • Turner Pinball showed off its new Jon Norris-designed Merlin’s Arcade pinball machine. Nitro Pinball shared several pictures of it on the floor at the show

  • Chicago Gaming Company’s booth contained the new Merlin Edition Medieval Madness, Cactus Canyon with the new Expanded Code and Pulp Fiction.

  • The distributor Little Shop of Games shared a number of pictures of the show on its Facebook Page, including one of Homepin’s Blues Brothers, one of a cool new Mad Max homebrew game and one of the brand new Stern Pinball sign that went on sale at distributors

I’ll continue to look for news coming out of the show and update everyone here if anything else significant happens.
