Whew, the pinball news is coming fast and furious this week. This morning Spooky Pinball launched its reveal trailer for its next pinball machine, Scooby Doo. My first impression of the game is that it gives off an Alice Cooper's Nightmare Castle vibe with a more mainstream license.
The game is a widebody with an upper playfield. It contains an astonishing 4,000 callouts with the legit Scooby Doo voice actors, over 200 RGB LEDs, a subway, a 5 Ball Mystery Machine lock and 16 custom molded sculpts.
The game was designed by Spooky Luke and Bug with Spooky DJ on code. The custom sculpts were done by the always awesome Back Alley Creations. The machine contains original clips from the prime of the Scooby television series and new animations by Bill Rude. It will be sold in three variants, the Standard ($7,769), the Blood Sucker's Edition ($8,769) and the Collector's Edition ($9,769). Sales of the machine will be limited to 1,969 units and will open on Friday, December 9 at 10:00 AM CST.
A number of interesting features caught my eye during my initial watching of the trailer, including the unique apron dual ball lock, the unusual flipper shape for the left flipper in the upper playfield, the magnetic hands on the Captain Cutler diver bash toy and the drain-blocking drop target. The game has an upper playfield, which I personally love, but it's not as elaborate as the upper playfields on Halloween and Ultra Man.
Another interesting feature that Spooky incorporated into the game is that it is capable of having 5-players rather than just the standard 4.
Tomorrow Spooky Pinball will conduct a Q&A on the new game on its Facebook page at 7:00 PM CST (link below).
