Every week Doc Mack, owner of the famous Galloping Ghost arcade, reveals a new "Monday Mystery Game" that he adds to the floor of his massive location in Brookfield, Illinois. This week's reveal was extra special, because it represented the 1,000th game on the floor at Galloping Ghost. That's quite a milestone!
The 1,000th game revealed was a very rare 1985 LaserDisc game by Data East called Road Blaster. The gameplay appears to play very similar to Dragon's Lair, where players look for cues on the screen to press a direction or a button. In this case though, instead of rescuing a damsel in distress players are trying to help a "vigilante...avenge the death of his wife by pursuing the biker gang responsible for her death in a modified sports car."
The game was animated by studio Toei Animation, which was also responsible for the 1986 film The Transformers: The Movie. They used an astonishing 15,000 hand-painted cels to create the game's 30+ minutes of animation.
The game was eventually ported to various platforms, including Sega CD, Sega Saturn and PlayStation.
Congratulations to Doc Mack for this impressive accomplishment!
Wow, Galloping Ghost reaching 1,000 games is seriously impressive! It's like a dream come true for any arcade fan, having all those classics under one roof. I’ve always thought there’s something magical about that old-school arcade vibe, and it’s amazing to see places like this keeping it alive. Nowadays, I feel like everything is moving towards digital gaming, but there’s still nothing quite like the feel of those joysticks and buttons. Speaking of gaming culture and keeping things fresh I’ve been exploring different aspects of how gaming evolves best blogs at Slotsjudge There's always something new to learn, especially with how modern gaming elements blend into classics!
Loved Road Blaster! Almost forgot, they changed the console port name from Road Blaster to Road Avenger. Don't know if it was to avoid confusion with Atari's Roadblasters or something else.
