Executive Vice President of American Pinball Resigns

This afternoon, the head of American Pinball, David Fix announced his resignation from the company. Pinball News and Pinball Magazine were the first to report the news. The following "press release" was shared on the Pinball Magazine Website:

“2025 should be an exciting year for American Pinball, with game 7 poised for release, which I believe will be the best game ever designed and produced by American Pinball! It has also been one of my greatest privileges and a personal highlight to have collaborated with the licensor and incredible team that has put their heart and soul into this project.”2025 should be an exciting year for American Pinball, with game 7 poised for release, which I believe will be the best game ever designed and produced by American Pinball! It has also been one of my greatest privileges and a personal highlight to have collaborated with the licensor and incredible team that has put their heart and soul into this project.

With a touch of sadness, I am announcing that after my past exciting 4 years at American Pinball, ownership and I have not renewed any contract for my continuation with American Pinball. As ownership adjusts their operation and plans for American Pinball’s future, I will wish them all the best and success that will come with the new Game 7 launch. However I am very proud to leave American Pinball with their impending new game design ready to go, and will be excited to see how it is received later on this year when it goes into production and officially released!

Wishing everyone a prosperous and healthy 2025 as we all continue into the exciting changes the new year will bring. See you at Pinball Expo 2025!!!

Cheers,

David”

The news of Fix's resignation comes on the heels of an interesting post appearing on American Pinball's website on January 3rd (see below) stating that the company is hiring line workers, game testers, electrical engineers and service support.

I'm not sure what this means for the release of American Pinball's seventh game, Cuphead, designed by Ryan McQuaid. Despite the recent departure of most of the division's employees, I don't necessarily think that Aimtron wants to pull the plug on pinball just yet. I will put my ear to the ground and see what I can find out.

I would not feel as comfortable today as I did last week about dropping a deposit for a game. I might also start to have doubts about any warranty for even a game picked up that is sitting at a distributor. This is what shaky ground looks like.

Always a mixed bag with pinball, and the best support is always from the community anyway. So long as you buy from a reputable distro, you'll get your machine and some support. If it is a big seller, the machine will get polished software and quality mods and fixes, but you'll have a common game. Part of the charm buying from a boutique mfg is that your game is prob going to be more rare... however future part availability is not guaranteed, even with JJP and Stern beyond a couple of years. IMHO anyway.

If the contract was four years, wasn't he hired at the start of Dec 2020? So did he just work the last month for free? I sure hope he wasn't in charge of laying off people and then shown the door himself. Shitty enough situation as it is. I don't blame Fix for the downfall of AP, but I also don't think this was ever going to work out either. I think they fart out a few Cupheads and wind it down if they can't sell the company.

There's plenty of blame to go around at AP unfortunately. I personally would be very surprised if Cuphead gets made, but stranger things have happened. We'll see.
