Checking In…

Good morning everyone. I never like to go more than a week or so without posting up on the website so I figured that I’d check in with a quick update.

As those of you who follow the Knapp Arcade Facebook and Instagram accounts (and if you don’t, you should for all sorts of great pictures of pinball and arcade games and quick news bites) last week my family and I were on vacation in Colorado.

From what I can gather, not much has happened in the world of pinball and arcade since I wrote about the Haggis Pinball implosion from the airport late last week…

We had a surprise appearance by the new Black & White Godzilla 70th Anniversary Edition pinball machine from Stern at last weekend’s Southern Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta. They beat San Diego Comic-Con to the punch.

Speaking of which, Comic-Con is happening this weekend. It will feature a booth with Stern Pinball and a Stern Pop-Up Arcade at a nearby hotel. Stern is heavily promoting John Wick in conjunction with the event. I just watched John Wick 2 and 3 one night on the trip in our hotel room. It reminded me how much I like those movies. The one Wick that I found on location while I was away was getting TONS of play. Maybe it will gain some traction after a very slow start to sales.

Also from Stern, I heard yesterday that they are going to do another run of Deadpool toppers for the first time in a long time very soon. That makes sense given the fact that they just did a run of Deadpool Pros. So if you’ve been looking for a topper for one, keep an eye out for them. They’re coming.

Beyond that, there hasn’t really been much new going on in the hobby. I expect August to be similarly quiet, with the exception of possibly a surprise announcement of something like the long-anticipated Metallica reboot from Stern. I don’t know exactly when that is coming but it will probably be before the end of the year and they have to do it early enough not to overlap with their next Cornerstone game - which if I was a betting man I’d guess is X-Men ‘97.

We’re due for another one of those epic avalanches of game launches this fall, like we’ve seen twice over the past couple of years. Those are always super exciting. That probably won’t start until the upcoming Chicago Pinball Expo (the 40th one!) in mid-October or shortly before that.

In the meantime, I have three new Arcade Reports up on the Knapp Arcade Facebook page for the Manatou Springs Penny Arcade, The Control Room in Colorado Springs and surprisingly the Garden of the Gods RV Resort. I have another one coming soon for Colorado’s largest pinball location, Lyon’s Classic Pinball so keep an eye out for that. As I mentioned, they’re up on Facebook right now (link below) but I do plan on posting them up here as well in the near future.

For now, we have the return of the big Pinburgh pinball tournament to check out this weekend. IE Pinball will broadcast the finals of the event on Twitch.

I’ll continue to keep my ear to the ground for interesting pinball and arcade stuff. If you have anything newsworthy that you’re willing to share, I always appreciate heads up about things and rumors. Please send them my way at knapparcade@gmail.com.

Talk to you soon.
